Solo Challenge Game 1 - Cascadia
In my game collection I have numerous games that can be played solo and I've set myself a challenge to play 30 of them in the shortest amount of time that I can manage.
For the first game of my solo challenge I chose the game Cascadia. Designed by Randy Flynn with art by Beth Sobel, and published by Flatout Games, and AEG. 2021
This was the first time I played Cascadia solo.
Here's a short overview of the rules:
The object is to create a harmonious environment of habitat tiles, and wildlife tokens that score you the most points based on the size of your habitats, and the Wildlife Scoring cards.
In the solo game, you set up, and play, as if you are playing a two-player game, and after you select your tile token combo you remove the rightmost pair and randomly draw two more pairs. This is meant to simulate your opponent taking one of the pairs.
I played Achievement scenario 1. (scenarios in the back of the rule book) with a goal of 80+ points at game end, using set A of the Wildlife Scoring cards.
My Score:
Wildlife Habitats
Nature Tokens: 3
Final score: 98
Over all a realty good solo system. It maintains the flavour of the multi-player game, and presents interesting choices created by one pair of tiles disappearing at the end of each round. Also takes no more than 20 mins.
Will definitely play again.
